During the `80s there was a wave of shaving videos. "ShaveTail," "Will You Shave My Pussy?" etc. This demonstration of personal hygiene had the status of forbidden spectacle, and was only at the beginning of the cusp of what would be a new aluminum age of hairless, bald (and to me uninteresting) pussies.

We had never seen such behavior before. Most mainstream porn was satisified with some missionary, a couple blow-jobs, a bout of cunnilingus, and the 3-way at the end for the big finish. These personalized and instructional videos were minimalist in their plot-lines (if there was plot). They were often shot on the new video cameras rather than film, and ran short. 65 minutes when that could be called a "feature" in the old days.

They skewed lesbian as well. That was the selling point ("I'll Shave Your Pussy and You Can Shave Mine") and they would eventually turn into a POV gonzo-style with every other perversion and spectacle included.

I'm not sure what the fetish over shaving really mean in the '80s. I'm guessing it was an excuse to show women playing with themselves, spreading and fingering with the thin pretension at innocent grooming, a voyeuristic, transgressive thrill that also mixed creaming, masturbation, and pre-adolescent suggestion to an otherwise rather explicit display of their attributes.

By the 1990s I think we'd seen about everything and our curiousity needed to be sated with more extreme, confounding and downright acrobatic stunts for the cameras.
